life since Tuesday

I apologize for the lack of information this week. Lets see if I can get you all caught up on all things Sandy.
Wednesday- I watched Lost-- LOVE that show.
Thursday- I worked, had Daisy Scouts, and went to the Grocery store. Our Brunos was having a buy one get one free sale so I had to go and get some items. That night- I cooked Chicken Kabobs in the rotisserie. The contained chicken, mushrooms, squash, tomatoes, and onions. They were delicious and I served them with roasted potatoes and pasta. I went to bed early that night- still dealing with this allergy/cold/cough thing. I took a codeine cough pill and went to bed. I am sure you all missed the Thursday 13- but don't worry- I have already started working on the Thursday 13 for next week.

Friday- I had an awesome day at school. I came home and prepared beef wellington, mashed potatoes and gravy for dinner.

It was so delicious! We had a relaxing night at home and caught up on our DVR watching.

Today, I got up and looked through my recipe drawer trying to find something yummy to make for our annual Super Bowl Party. Mr. D. got up and we went to Chick-fil-a for breakfast- which I hate, and then to the Party City - which I love! We went to the Parent Teacher Store, Wolf Camera, Hobby Lobby and Costco. Here is a pic of my cart at Costco.

There has never been a girl so glad to get some Food Saver Bags!! We also picked up a 6 lb pork tenderloin for 9 dollars!! I came home and sealed it right up into 3 nights worth of meals!! After the shopping trip- I came home and took a nap. That is exactly what I needed too. I felt so refreshed afterwards.

Remember the Dragon??? Well, my class won 3rd place in their division for the art contest. So, today we had to be at the Chinese Festival to accept our award. We had talked to the lady in charge of the festival and she said the award would be at 3:45. We went downtown and parked. It was 3:pm. We saw our neighbors and chatted with them for a few minutes while my friend Courtney got out of her car so we could walk in with her. We walked in and they had our art work on display, so I showed it to Mr. D. Courtney, Ki (in my class) and Avi (Courtney's other daughter) had to enter the auditorium through a ramp because Avi was in a stroller. We were winding down and I hear the lady say "The Blue Class." WHAT??? It is only 3:15ish.. So, we finally get to the bottom of the ramp and sure enough- they had given the award. I was proud as a peacock when I looked up at the stage and saw some of my kids up there accepting the award for us. They weren't scared at all- and SO cute. I just can't tell you how proud I was of these sweet darlings. Afterwards, I chatted with the families and thanked them for coming- and introduced Mr. D. to the families he hadn't met yet. Here is a picture of me and Kate with the Dragon head and I am holding our $30 check that the kids won. If you look behind me - you will see the part of the dragon where the kids made the fish out of pasta. Our dragon had 16 body parts and 27 Ox made out of fabric and chopsticks.

After the festival- Kate and her boyfriend Blake joined us for - what else- Chinese food for an early dinner.

Mr. D. and I went to the market after that to get our list for the super bowl party. We came home and did a little prep work for the Par-TAY!! I am going to make you wait until tomorrow to see what we are having.....

Meghan's birthday

It is Meghan's birthday. I told her I would cook her anything she wanted for dinner. She chose shrimp taco salads.

They were DE-licious!! Meghan even said she liked it better than Cozumel... but I think she was being nice. They were good though!

For those of you who may not know- Mr. D. is somewhat of a cake snob. He only likes to eat yellow cake with chocolate frosting. I was making Meghan a sour cream cake with cream cheese frosting. Since I knew Mr. D. would fuss- I came up with a brilliant solution.

I made half of the cake sour cream with cream cheese frosting and half of the cake yellow with chocolate frosting. The sour cream cake called for a white cake mix and egg whites. I made the recipe and filled one 8 inch round pan. Then I added in the yolks to the remaining batter making the cake into a yellow cake and filled the other 8 inch round pan. I cooked the cakes, and sliced them in half- making to totally different halves of the cake. Everyone was happy- and no matter which side you ate from- the cake was great! I of course- added the empty egg shells to the compost pile.
So, happy birthday Meghan. Have an awesome 25!!!

composting day 1

This is a picture of the composting material I gathered today. I had peels from zucchini and squash, tea leaves, and an egg shell.

Sunday

This morning- we varied from the usual Sunday routine and went to the Waffle House. I enjoyed a chocolate chip waffle. It was SO good. We are both still sick with this cold and thought some time out of the house may be good for us. I am going to set off a lysol bomb when we go to work tomorrow. Afterwards we went to Books-A-Million. I love going to the bookstore. I always love looking at everything. I looked at religious books, gardening books, adoption books, cook books, and the discount books. Mr. D. just looked at Photography books. He got a new camera for Christmas and I am very excited about his getting into more of a photography hobby. I am encouraging him to start a photography blog to show off his talent.
I left the store with this book.
Mr. D. left with this book.We came home and put our PJ's back on. We have spent the afternoon listening to each other cough and doing projects on the internet. I revamped my blog and added twitter to the side. Mr. D. has played some trivia game on the New England Patriots. I am cooking a hen in the rotisserie tonight.

stay tuned---

I am planning to revamp my blog today.

gardening class

Today, I took my first of 5 gardening classes. I was asked to be on a committee at my school to plan gardens for the school and implement gardening into the classroom studies. I am not sure I am exactly the correct person for the job- but I am willing to try. I mean, technically, I have gardening in my blood. I come from a family who gardened. I am not opposed to the idea. I even have a pair of gardening clogs. I have a garden bed outside just waiting for me to actually plant something in it. I should be fine. Today's class was fun. We went to a community garden in the beginning stages. I learned more than I ever wanted to know about soil, manure and composting. So, just know dear readers- you may be reading more and more about gardening on this blog. Hopefully, I inherited some sort of green thumb. I am starting my compost pile at home tomorrow and planning my bed. I will try to take a picture of the bed tomorrow.
